SUNBEAMS OF HEALTH

In Sunbeams of Health (2003), the darkened gallery space encouraged participation, movement, and the sharing of multiple viewpoints. Two gardens were created within the gallery space: the Meditation Boob provided intimate viewing and space for contemplation, the other room, in contrast, was lounge-like. Large multicolored flower-shaped pillows were casually placed on the floor throughout the exhibition spaces to provide a place of rest for visitors. To create a more immersive environment, the only lights that illuminated the darkened space beamed from the slide projectors. The digitally rendered plant, animal, and cellular forms of the projections floated on the walls. In the darkness, the sound of the projectors lulled spectators to sink into the flower pillows as though slipping into bed, dreaming.
